Clinically the term ‘sex addiction’ is now considered outdated, however it remains the term most often used by the wider public.

Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD) was included as an impulse control disorder rather than an addiction in the World Health Organisation’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) in 2019

At Innisfree Therapy, we recognise the importance of this distinction and our programmes are based on improving individuals’ capacity for impulse and emotional self-regulation towards sexual health and a new way of being, rather than using an abstinence based Addiction Model.

We understand that many people continue to refer to these compulsive and destructive behaviours as ‘sex addiction’.

We continue to include this terminology on our website and social media so that those in need of our services can find us.
