During the last decade or so, there has been heated debate regarding whether Sex Addiction is a real disorder and if it should be recognised as such medically.
In July 2018 The World Health Organisation added Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD) as an impulse control disorder in the ICD‐11.
If you are not familiar with the ICD-11 it is the International Classification of Diseases (11th Revision) and is used by The World Health Organisation to record all recognised diseases.
CSBD is characterized by a persistent pattern of failure to control intense, repetitive sexual impulses or urges, resulting in repetitive sexual behaviour over an extended period, which causes marked distress or impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning.
CSBD is the medical umbrella group that sex addiction, porn addiction etc are classed under, although they are not recognised terms. The shift from using ‘sex addiction’ to CSBD is to help end the stigma around this issue and to use the correct medical terminology.
